Chlorella Detox smoothie
When I'm feeling bloated, like I'm carrying a lot of water weight, run down or after I've eaten a little too many indulgent foods, I opt for my Chlorella Detox Smoothie. This smoothie contains Chlorella, a superfood green algae that helps remove toxins, heavy metals, and harmful chemicals from our bodies. To learn more about chlorella, head over to my blog post, "Chlorella: Green Superfood for Detoxification" or click on the title.
I also include some natural fruit and veggie diuretics that help remove excess sodium and water from the body. Pineapple and citrus fruits like mandarins or clementines have beneficial amounts of potassium which helps rid the body of sodium. Pineapple gets extra points because it contains the enzyme, bromelain, which reduces inflammation in joints and muscles, which is personally important to me. Leafy greens like spinach act as another natural diuretic. As if this smoothie didn't already pack a nutritional punch, I add grass-fed collagen peptides as well, which supports the health of connective tissue, cartilage, bone, joints, hair, and skin. This last step is optional of course, but it acts as a bonus to the detox elements!
